MediumTonga Baskets 12" - 14" $40.00
Basket weaving is a very intricate process passed down from generation to generation. Baskets are made from different types of grasses, come in all shapes and sizes and are multifunctional. They can be used for carrying, storing and decorating.
The baskets we have are made by Tonga women and is the primary source of income for many families. Traditionally women come together in the cool of the afternoon after the morning chores and before evening duties. This is one of those places where the really good gossip takes place. Young girls are taught the “proper” way to build strong families, how to cook good food to have healthy children and most importantly - keep the husband happy!
This place of weaving is part of the moral fabric that keeps communities together. There is plenty of song, dance and laughter, a very important aspect of many African societies. Worries and heartbreaks are forgotten. Those with troubles and anxieties are counseled and provided with hope, faith and love.
We currently have meduim size baskets between 12" - 14" for $40.00. Each basket is individually made so the patterns will be different. Please indicate your choice of pattern before you add this item to the shopping cart.
